The QPR Institute’s mission is to save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training. We believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know.

What is a QPR Gatekeeper?

A gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.

QPR Gatekeepers can be anyone, but include:

  • Parents
  • Teachers
  • Ministers
  • Youth
  • Doctors
  • First Responders
  • Mental Health Professionals
  • You

As a Certified QPR Gatekeeper, You Will Learn To

  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide.
  • Increase awareness of stigma and understand suicide as a public health issue.
  • Know how to offer hope.
  • Know how to access local and national referral resources.
  • Know how to get help and save a life.

Walking Together

Raising Suicide Awareness in Elkhart County

Join the Elkhart County Suicide Prevention Coalition in a half-mile walk at the Wellfield Botanic Gardens. Entry is free and all ages are welcome! Suicide awareness and support resources will be available for attendees.

What is lead-safe training?

Renovation or maintenance in any home, school, or daycare built before 1978 must be completed by individual(s) certified by EPA Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Training. Training is funded by Region 5 EPA. Public Health & Safety, Inc. (PHS) is accredited to teach Lead Renovator Initial courses for you to become certified.

Who this is for

Anyone. Regulators, code officers, students, electricians, plumbers, painters, window specialists, HVAC workers, renovators, building code officials, code officers, contractors, landlords, residents, and anyone who would like to work to prevent lead paint exposure! Attendees must be residents or workers within the local areas of South Bend, Goshen, and Elkhart Indiana, and be at least 18.

May 31, 2023: Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. You'll build the skills and confidence you need to reach out and provide initial support to those who are struggling. You'll also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.

Format: 2-hour self-paced online course as well as in-person instructor-led training. Lunch is included.

Cost: $35
