Keeping Community Pools Safe

The Commercial Swimming Pool Program is responsible for ensuring that measures are in place to prevent diseases transmitted through improperly treated swimming pool water, to verify that adequate safety precautions are in place, and to prevent and properly respond to accidents. The goal of the program is to promote swimming pool safety and proper pool maintenance through education, routine counseling, and assessment of the 100 public pools and spas operating in Elkhart County.

All public pools and spas, regardless of type, are regulated under the State Pool Rule 410 IAC 6-2.1, the State Pool Construction Rule 675 IAC 20, and the Elkhart County Swimming Pool Ordinance. These documents outline the minimum safety requirements for each of the various types of public pools that operate in the county.
